Selected Work
Representative problems, approaches, and public examples.
Much of my recent consulting work involved proprietary client data, internal code, or private decision-support products, so it cannot be posted publicly. The examples below focus on the problem solved, my role, and the capabilities demonstrated without exposing confidential assets.
Case studies
Reusable client dashboard framework
Problem. Recurring client deliverables depended heavily on static reports and slide decks. One-off production made it difficult to maintain consistency, reduce revision cycles, reuse components, and give decision-makers access to the deeper data behind top-level findings.
My role. Led development of reusable dashboard components and analytic workflows for health workforce projection and reporting projects.
Approach. Standardized recurring analyses and data preparation, developed modular R/Shiny components, strengthened validation workflows, and supported deployment through Posit Connect. The framework preserved client-specific flexibility while making the underlying process more repeatable.
Tools and methods. R · Shiny · Posit Connect · SQL · Excel · reproducible reporting · data validation
Demonstrates. Dashboard and application development, client-facing analytics, reusable data-product design, workflow modernization, and communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Workforce projection modeling
Problem. State agencies, hospital associations, professional societies, and other organizations needed defensible estimates of future workforce supply and demand for planning, education, policy, advocacy, and investment decisions.
My role. Managed economists and contributed directly to analytic design, projection methods, data processing, validation, reporting, stakeholder communication, and final deliverables.
Approach. Integrated licensing, education, demographic, survey, utilization, and labor-market data into reproducible workflows. Built and reviewed projections, tested outputs, translated assumptions and uncertainty for non-technical audiences, and produced public-facing reports and presentations.
Tools and methods. R · SQL · Excel · survey and administrative data · geospatial analysis · projection modeling · reproducible reporting
Demonstrates. Statistical modeling, data integration, applied research, executive communication, and end-to-end analytic delivery.
Data workflow modernization and architecture evaluation
Problem. Analytic teams can inherit fragmented files, repeated manual processes, undocumented dependencies, and infrastructure proposals that are more complex or expensive than their actual needs.
My role. Evaluated practical approaches to storing, querying, validating, documenting, and reusing recurring analytic datasets.
Approach. Developed proof-of-concept workflows using lightweight, analyst-friendly tools and compared alternatives based on performance, cost, maintainability, team skill, and handoff risk. One example used DuckDB with object-storage-oriented workflows as a simpler direct-query architecture for analytic workloads.
Tools and methods. DuckDB · object storage · R · SQL · dataset profiling · validation checks · documentation · reproducible pipelines
Demonstrates. Data architecture, pragmatic engineering judgment, cost-aware technical decision-making, and process modernization.
Public survey modernization and data collection strategy
Problem. Workforce data programs needed more complete, timely, and policy-relevant information without creating a data collection process disconnected from existing institutional workflows.
My role. Led survey design, data collection strategy, data linkage, analysis, and recurring reporting for health workforce supply and demand studies.
Approach. Improved survey instruments, aligned collection with licensing and renewal processes, linked survey and administrative data where appropriate, and converted recurring analysis into more repeatable workflows.
Tools and methods. Survey design · R · SQL · administrative data · licensing data · data linkage · reporting automation
Demonstrates. Research design, stakeholder needs assessment, data governance awareness, operational analytics, and system design under real-world constraints.
